KVM switch causing low resolution on HP w2207h monitor

without comments

I am very pleased with the new HP 22″ widescreen monitor I bought at christmas…but life is never simple!

My old dlink kvm switch forced the monitor to display a maximum resolution of 1024×768, the monitor’s recommended being 1680×1050. The problem is something to do with the fact the kvm switch does not allow the monitor to pass the appropiate information about itself (using DDC) to the computer. Connecting the monitor to the computer corrects the problem but leaves your other box out in the cold.

I found the Belkin Switch2 (with usb and audio) kvm solved the problem. So if you are in the same boat you know what to do, I was fortunate enough to be able to borrow a switch2 from work to try one out before buying one on Amazon at £35.
